Dear Andy

You will recall that you installed a 3m2 Apricus-based water heating system last October on our 22 1/2 degree south-facing roof. I’ve delayed sending you my impressions until now, because impending winter was not the right time to form a balanced impression of performance! So with spring now very definitely in the air, here goes!

First, the installation experience. We can honestly say that Alison and I positively enjoyed your 2 1/2 days with us, and reckon that you score straight A’s on all counts. The work required, and its impacts were clearly outlined beforehand, and more importantly, kept to; this kept our concerns as to noise, dust and disruption to a minimum, and all these were in fact kept to very low levels. We particularly liked the protective plastic cover on the stair carpet, but this was typical of your care taken throughout.

The quality of the main absorber units, but also of the crucial sub-systems such as pipework, insulation and seals — all too-often skimped on, were uniformly, as far as we could tell, of the very best.

For equipment which we hope and expect to last decades rather than years, this factor gave us confidence in having chosen you to carry out this installation. False economies must be a temptation in beating the other chap's quote, but your overall figure was straight and fair.

As to our expectations and actual performance, so far so good. The four winter months mid-October to mid-February have been pretty wet and dismal this year, but nonetheless, the pump has been pumping heat on average for over 2.5 hours a day, which considering the shallow roof/shallow sun combination and the shade from the large tree to the south west, I regard as more than reasonable. A significant degree of pre-heating has been the norm, and this is most encouraging.

I'll keep you posted on this!

With best wishes from us both

Dick and Alison Warne

Mr Andrew Probert of Astral Solutions together with a colleague fitted a flat-bed solar water heating system to my property on 15th March 2007. In the first 5 weeks the contoller recorded 250 solar heating hours. The cylinder rarely drops below 50 degrees c and there is always plenty of hot water for showers, baths and the washing of clothes.

The system was installed with the minimum of intrusion possible and the services were restored and work areas left clean and tidy after each session.

Mr Probert has my highest recommendation to anyone seeking his services and I am very happy to have met him. He has my permission to pass on my ’phone number to anyone wanting confirmation.

Dear Andy,

I would just like to thank you for all your hard work last Monday through Wednesday, fitting the Apricus Solar Water Heating System and new Twin Coil Solar Tank.

The installation went exactly as Andy said that it would, and the results are very impressive, again as Andy said that they would be.

It has been useful to see the system’s performance in what have been ideal conditions over the last 4 days, and the results are better than we could have expected for this time of the year.

At 8.30 am,  the solar collector circuit fluid outlet  temperature has been at ambient of aprox 3°C and  the solar storage area of the tank temperature aprox 15°C. The  tank top draw off temperature has still been around 55C, after having been heated to just over 60°C at 5pm the previous evening (10 minutes boiler time), with 4 lots of morning (power) showers taken plus an  ‘economy 7’ early washing machine cycle (hot water input into the machine).

By 9am The pump has started to circulate the collector fluid, reaching just over 60°C on one of the days and aprox 58°C on the other days by mid afternoon. This has raised the storage temperature to aprox 50°C, which is impressive at this time of year.

Even today, which was cold and completely overcast, the system has been functional although not to any significant effect.

It is quite clear from what we have observed, that the boiler will not be required at all most days between mid April to mid September, and will only be required to heat hot water for between 10 and 30 mins per day during the winter.

Most impressive.

I would be delighted to recommend the product and both your Companies as a suppliers and installers to any interested parties. Additionally we would also be happy for you to feel free contact us to make arrangements to bring along potential clients along to see an Apricus system in operation, should this be of interest.

Best regards

Ian
